Saint-Florent cocktail

An easy-drinking aperitif made slightly more potent with the addition of gin. We’ve adapted Bon Appétit’s recipe.

Serves 8

What you’ll need…
  • ¼ cup clover honey (for the honey syrup)
  • 1½ cups gin
  • ¾ cup fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup Aperol or Cappelletti Angostura bitters
  • 750ml (3 cans) No. 1 Sparkling White Wine
  • Garnish: 8 dried lemon wheels

How to make it…

  1. In two tumblers, add a couple of ice cubes.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine 6 tbsp gin, 3 tbsp fresh lime juice, 2 tbsp Aperol, 1 tbsp honey syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
  3. Fill shaker with ice.
  4. Cover and shake for about 30 seconds.
  5. Strain into 2 tumbler glasses.
  6. Top off each with No. 1 Sparkling White.
  7. Garnish with a dried lemon wheel.
  8. Repeat three more times to use all the ingredients.

Making Honey Syrup…

Combine honey and 2 tbsp. hot water in a lidded container like a jar; cover and shake to dissolve honey.

Frozen Hula Hoop

Frozen Hula Hoop cocktail

One Hula of a drink… a sweet-tart blend of pineapple, raspberry, and lemon adds fresh fruit flavour to this slushy frozen drink from Erick Castro spiked with white rum, Aperol, and dry red wine

Serves 4 – 6

What you’ll need…
  • 6 cups ice cubes
  • 140ml White Rum
  • 140ml Fresh Pineapple Juice
  • 92ml plus 2 tbsp Raspberry Syrup
  • 70ml No. 5 Red Wine
  • 132ml Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 3 tbps Aperol
  • Garnish: Edible orchids, raspberries, lemon wheel

How to make it…

  1. Process ice cubes, rum, pineapple juice, raspberry syrup, wine, lemon juice, and Aperol in a blender until smooth

  2. Pour evenly into tumbler glasses.
  3. 
Garnish with pineapple fronds, orchids, and raspberries.

Make ahead…

Cocktail can be frozen up to 3 days. Let thaw until slushy, about 15 minutes; stir well before serving.

Naughty Jack-O Lantern Float

Naughty Jack-O Lantern Float Cocktail

Not for everyone, but we have made the kids Jack-O Lantern Float a little bit naughty!

Serves 4

What you’ll need…
  • 4 scoops Vanilla ice cream (scoop per glass)
  • 500ml (2 cans) No. 4 White
  • 660ml (2 cans) Orange Soda / Fanta
  • Garnish: Halloween gummy sweets (optional). Cut black card shapes to stick to the glasses.

How to make it…

  1. For the spooky faces: Cut shapes from black card and stick on the outer part of the glasses. 
  2. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to each glass.
  3. Add half a can of No. 4 White wine to each glass.
  4. Top up each glass with half a can of Orange Soda (Fanta).
  5. Garnish with gummy eyeball sweets or any other Halloween paraphernalia.

Witches’ Brew Black Sangria

Double, double toil and trouble. We have adapted fedandfit.com Witches’ Brew Black Sangria recipe with our cans of wine.

Serves 6 – 8

What you’ll need…
  • 118ml Cherry Juice (tart rather than sweet)
  • 118ml Pomegranate Juice
  • 750ml (3 cans) No. 5 Red
  • 118ml Orange Juice
  • 710ml Ginger Beer
  • Ice cubes (crushed/broken)
  • Garnish: Pomegranate seeds
To decorate the glass…
  • 118ml Cherry Juice (tart rather than sweet)
  • 2 tbsp Honey

How to make it…

  1. To make the sangria, in a large pitcher/jug, combine the Cherry juice, Pomegranate juice, No. 5 Red, Orange juice and Ginger Beer. Give this a gentle stir and put it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.
  2. For the Candied Blood Rim glasses, add 118ml Cherry Juice and 2 tbsp Honey to a saucepan. Simmer for about 15 minutes on a low heat until it has thickened. Put this to one side and let it cool before decorating.
  3. Once cooled, dip each glass into candied blood mixture and let it drip down the side.
  4. When ready to serve, add a some crushed ice to each glass and fill the glass with sangria.
  5. To garnish, top each drink with pomegranate seeds.

Bold Chieftain

Serves 1

What you’ll need…
  • 25ml Whiskey
  • 25ml Orange Liqueur (Triple Sec)
  • 250ml (1 can) No. 1 Sparkling White
  • Ice cubes
  • Garnish: Orange peel

How to make it…

  1. Add ice cubes to the glass.
  2. Next, add the whiskey and orange liqueur.
  3. Top it up with the No. 1 Sparkling White.
  4. Garnish with a piece of orange peel.

Serves 1

What you’ll need…
  • 50ml Pink Gin
  • 22ml Fresh Lemon juice
  • 22ml Simple syrup
  • 30ml No. 5 Red
  • 1 cup ice

How to make it…

  1. Pre-chill your tumbler size glass. When you are ready to make the cocktail, add ice to it.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, Simple Syrup and lemon juice.
  3. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well.
  4. Strain over the ice in the glass.
  5. Using the back of a spoon, float the No. 5 Red wine on top. Slowly pouring it over the back of a spoon near the drink’s surface.

Making Simple Syrup…

To make simple sugar, heat equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Let cool completely before using.

The Julep

This sparkling white and whiskey cocktail is definitely one to try. Introducing to you… The Julep.

Serves 1

What you’ll need…
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 25ml Whiskey
  • 25ml Mint syrup (see mint sugar syrup)
  • 250ml (1 can) No. 1 Sparkling White
  • Ice cubes
  • Garnish: Mint leaves

How to make it…

  1. Prepare the glass by adding some crushed ice and a couple of muddled mint leaves.
  2. Add 25ml of the mint sugar syrup, along with the whiskey.
  3. Top up with No. 1 Sparkling White to desired taste.
  4. Very gently, stir the contents making sure not to over fizz it.
  5. Garnish with some mint leaves and serve.

Serves 2

What you’ll need…

  • 120ml Campari
  • 180ml No. 1 Sparkling White
  • Dash of Sparkling Water
  • Ice cubes
  • Garnish: Slices of orange and half a strawberry

How to make it…

  1. Add ice to the glasses.
  2. Pour 60ml of Campari into each galss
  3. Add 90ml No. 1 Sparkling White wine. (Add more if desired)
  4. Add a dash of sparkling water to top up.
  5. Stir gently without over fizzing it too much.
  6. Garnish with a slice of orange and half a strawberry.
